Organizations using Hitachi Vantara’s Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One) achieved a 285% return on investment (ROI), US$1.1 million in net present value (NPV) and payback in just seven months, according to a new Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study conducted by Forrester Consulting.

Commissioned by Hitachi Vantara, the data storage, infrastructure and hybrid cloud management subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. (TSE: 6501), the study found that a composite organization representative of interviewed customers with experience using VSP One delivered measurable business value by improving operational efficiency, reducing costs and enabling scalability across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. Customers interviewed cited a 30% to 35% reduction in operational complexity, up to a 6:1 data reduction ratio, and significant time savings through automation and simplified management.

These global findings were contextualized at Hitachi Vantara ASEAN Exchange 2025, held in Phuket, Thailand, where more than 110 regional CIOs, technology leaders, and industry experts convened to discuss the implications for Southeast Asia. Leaders across manufacturing, public services, maritime, banking, financial services and healthcare underscored the urgent need for stronger data foundations to support AI readiness and sustainable digital transformation.

Adrian Johnson, Senior Vice President & General Manager, The Americas and Asia Pacific, Hitachi Vantara

“We believe the study validates what we consistently hear from Southeast Asian enterprises: modern infrastructure investments pay for themselves quickly when they reduce complexity and improve efficiency,” said Adrian Johnson, Senior Vice President & General Manager, The Americas and Asia Pacific, Hitachi Vantara. “Leaders from across the region confirmed these challenges and shared practical strategies for scaling AI securely and sustainably.”

Key Forrester TEI Findings

  • 285% ROI and seven-month payback
  • US$915,000 in operational efficiencies over three years from storage modernization, driven by a 35% reduction in complexity and a 40% decrease in troubleshooting time
  • US$373,000 in savings from increased storage efficiency through compression and deduplication, delaying expansion and reducing storage-related capital expenses
  • US$241,000 in time savings over three years from optimized workloads and faster provisioning enabled by AI/ML capabilities, freeing teams for higher-value initiatives

“Southeast Asia is moving fast on AI adoption, but data silos, low data quality, and rising security concerns are still slowing progress,” said Joe Ong, Vice President, ASEAN, Hitachi Vantara. “We feel the Forrester TEI findings show that with the right infrastructure, enterprises can achieve both cost savings and agility—critical outcomes for the region’s digital future.”

Supporting customers and partners in Southeast Asia

The TEI study’s findings echo wider regional dynamics. Hitachi Vantara’s State of Data Infrastructure survey (published December 2024) found that while 42% of organizations in Asia already view AI as critical, data foundations remain fragile—with models producing accurate outputs just 32% of the time and only 30% of data structured. These findings highlight the importance of working with partners who can provide proven ROI and practical pathways to simplify operations and prepare for AI at scale.
