Holcim Philippines, Inc.’s La Union plant was recently recognized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for excellence in health and safety.
Holcim’s plant in Bacnotan, La Union was recognized for its Safety Control Program by Region 1 office of the DOLE during the 12th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) Best Practice Award in January. Holcim La Union received a plaque and Php 10,000 prize and qualified for the Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan Champions, which recognizes the “best of the best” in health and safety.
The plant received the award after a rigorous review from the DOLE. The process included a presentation of programs for occupational safety and health, environment, and communities validated by DOLE inspectors. Participating organizations must not have been issued a notice of violation, recorded a lost time injury or fatality, and submitted required documents to the DOLE on time over the past two years.
Holcim Philippines Head of Health, Safety, Security and Environment Head CJ Guinto: “Our company is thankful to the DOLE for recognizing the continuing efforts to strengthen our health and safety culture. Our commitment to keeping people safe has helped us maintain our Zero Harm goals in operations and overcome the challenges of the pandemic. This award will further motivate us to ensure everyone involved in our business is healthy and safe.”
DOLE Region 1 Assistant Director Honorina Dian-Baga said the award is in recognition of the plant’s commitment to health and safety and noted that the company is well known and admired for its dedication to the welfare of employees. Holcim La Union’s plant operations committee and union officers received the award on January 17.
The DOLE awards the GKK to encourage companies to implement their safety, health, and environment programs to improve the welfare of people in the workplace.
