Nourishing the future through empowering young learners and teachers, Aboítiz Foods (AF) turned over new sustainable energy systems and high-speed satellite internet to five remote public elementary schools in Barangay Rogongon under Aboítiz Foundation’s AuroraPH program.

The initiative reflects cross-business collaboration within the Aboítiz Group, led by Aboítiz Foundation and supported by AF’s community partnerships and Aboítiz Power’s expertise in renewable energy solutions—working together to address long-standing challenges faced by last-mile schools.

In a milestone effort to promote quality education in geographically isolated communities, AF installed 5 kWp solar power systems and provided Starlink internet connectivity at Katipunan Elementary School, Binasan Elementary School, Salingsing Elementary School, and Libandayan Elementary School. Meanwhile, Kianibong Elementary School received Starlink-powered internet connectivity to enhance its digital learning capabilities.

Implemented in partnership with the Aboítiz Foundation, Aboítiz Power, the Department of Education (DepEd), Starlink, and local communities, AuroraPH responds to long-standing challenges in electricity and internet connectivity in off-grid schools—while helping build learning environments that are more resilient, sustainable, and future-ready.

“We know that when a school gains electricity, internet, and digital tools, it enriches potential and widens possibilities,” said Engr. Alexis Revantad, AF’s Vice President for Iligan Site Management and Flour Operations, adding, “Students can research, explore, and imagine futures they may not have thought possible. Teachers gain resources that help them teach with confidence and creativity. And communities gain pride—knowing that their school is not left behind but lifted up.”

Joining Revantad in the ceremonial project turnover on December 12 were Aboítiz Foundation’s Impact Lead for Education Jowelle Ann Cruz, DepEd represented by Engr. Lyndon Inding of the Engineering Office, Public Schools District Supervisor Dr. Vilma Arrazo, school heads, faculty, and students of the five beneficiary schools, and community members.

For years, the five elementary schools in Barangay Rogongon operated with limited to no access to electricity, making it difficult for teachers to facilitate classes and integrate technology into their lessons. With solar-powered classrooms and high-speed connectivity now in place, teachers can conduct more digitally interactive lessons while students can learn better with brighter classrooms and online learning tools.

“This meaningful contribution brings not only sustainable and renewable energy to our schools, but also renewed hope and greater opportunity to our learners and teachers,” said Inding, adding, “Through this solar panel installation, our schools finally have safe and renewable access to electricity, allowing us to create a more conducive and supportive environment for teaching and learning.”

Since the installation of the solar panels, the classrooms now have electric fans, improved ventilation, and a more conducive space for learning. In Libandayan Elementary School, the solar panels can also power its refrigerator, which is essential in storing food for its feeding program.

“If we look back at the history of our school, we truly had nothing, especially as a last-mile school,” said Libandayan Elementary School Head Santaliah Mansomayan, adding, “We never imagined that you would come this far to reach us. Our gratitude may be immeasurable, but it is sincere. Thank you for selecting our school and for providing the support we truly needed.”

Bringing light and hope to last-mile schools

A flagship program of Aboítiz Foundation, AuroraPH advances digital transformation in DepEd-identified last-mile schools by providing sustainable connectivity and innovative learning solutions. Since its launch in 2024, the AuroraPH project has reached 44 last-mile schools across the country, helping learners stay connected, educators teach more effectively, and communities thrive toward long-term development.

“AuroraPH is more than a program—it is a promise. A promise to illuminate the path toward a brighter future for students and teachers,” said Cruz, adding, “With over 1,500 last-mile schools still without access to electricity and internet, we remain committed to connecting at least 300 of these schools, opening more opportunities and empowering learners to thrive in the digital age.”

Last October, AF also implemented AuroraPH to two remote schools in Capas, Tarlac, extending the program’s reach across regions.
