Araneta City, in partnership with the Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities, Inc. (PACDLD), unites for the annual observation of World Autism Awareness Day through efforts that promote greater understanding and acceptance of people on the autism spectrum.
This year’s observance is anchored on the theme “A Kaleidoscope World,” which reflects the diversity, individuality, and lived experiences of people with autism. In line with this, Araneta City will host a series of activities from April 7 to 17 aimed at recognizing the contributions of individuals on the spectrum. The activities aims to bring together families, advocates, and community members, and encourages conversations on inclusion.
“Inclusivity is an important part of how we shape our spaces and programs in Araneta City,” said Marjorie Go, Vice President for Marketing of Araneta City. “These activities are meant to recognize individuals on the autism spectrum and to encourage greater awareness and understanding within the wider community.”
Art exhibit showcases works by children with autism
The Kaleidoscope World: True Colors 2026 Art Exhibition will formally open at Gateway Cineplex 18 at 10:30 a.m. on April 7. Serving as the central visual expression of this year’s theme, the exhibition will feature 30 paintings created by children diagnosed with autism, offering personal and reflective perspectives expressed through art.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be hosted by Binibining Pilipinas International 2025 Katrina Johnson, with guests from the J. Amado Araneta Foundation (JAAF) and PACDLD in attendance. The exhibit will be open to the public following the program and will run until April 19.
Autism Awards honor autism advocates
Later in the day, at 3:30 p.m., the 10th Autism Awards will be held at the Green Gate of the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The event will recognize individuals and organizations whose efforts have supported children with autism and advanced awareness initiatives.
The program also aims to provide parents and community members with insights from autism advocates and professionals. Actor Elijah Canlas, a recipient of last year’s award, will be formally announced as the Autism Advocates Ambassador during the ceremony.
Big Dome lights up in blue
From 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on April 7, the Smart Araneta Coliseum will be illuminated in blue as a gesture of solidarity with global World Autism Awareness Day observances. The annual lighting initiative reflects Araneta City’s continued participation in efforts that promote inclusion and acceptance. Canlas is also expected to take part in this activity.
Music performance closes awareness activities
The day’s activities will conclude with a busking performance by singer Kate Torres at Gateway 1. Torres, an autism advocate and supporter of individuals with special needs, will perform for mall-goers in an informal gathering meant to foster a shared moment of inclusion.
Run event promotes autism awareness
Culminating the observance is an Autism Awareness Run organized by the aRUNeta Run Club on April 12. Participants are encouraged to wear blue shirts in support of the autism community. The activity combines physical fitness with advocacy, reinforcing messages of acceptance and understanding.
“By opening our spaces to conversations and shared experiences like these, we hope to contribute to a more inclusive and informed community,” Go said.
Araneta City’s initiatives align with the United Nations’ 2026 theme, “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” which emphasizes the inherent dignity and worth of individuals with autism. Through its programs, Araneta City seeks to help create environments where people with special needs are respected and supported.
