In celebration of the centenary of National Artist for Visual Arts Larry Alcala, the Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) 2026, in partnership with the Larry Alcala Estate, presents Larry Alcala 100 Years, a special exhibition honoring one of the country’s most influential and beloved comics creators.
Recognized for his distinctive illustrations and the iconic Slice of Life series, Alcala chronicled everyday Filipino experiences with humor, warmth, and remarkable attention to detail, helping shape generations of readers and artists while leaving an enduring mark on Philippine visual culture.
The exhibition is composed of two complementary showcases. The “Slices of a Komikero’s Life” (Larry Alcala Tribute Exhibit), offers visitors an opportunity to revisit the life, artistry, and lasting legacy of the National Artist through selected reproductions and commemorative displays. Alongside it is Larry Alcala 100 Years × 100 Komikeros, a collective exhibition featuring one hundred Filipino comics creators presenting original works inspired by Alcala’s influence on Philippine comics and storytelling.
Bringing together artists from across generations, 100 Komikeros celebrates the continuing vitality of the local comics community and highlights the ways in which Larry Alcala’s creative spirit continues to inspire contemporary practitioners today.
In line with Larry Alcala’s Centenary celebration theme, “Creativity Is For Everyone,” PICOF attendees will be able to create their own Alcala and post it in the exhibit area of the event.
The exhibition opens on July 3, 2026, at 5:00 PM and runs until July 12, 2026 at the 3rd Floor of Ayala Malls The 30th, Pasig City. It will serve as a featured exhibition during the Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) 2026, taking place from July 10–12, 2026. This is free admission.
