Canada-based Sun Life Financial, Incorporated (SLF), the parent company of Sun Life Philippines (Sun Life), recently donated CAD$30,000 for relief efforts in the aftermath of Typhoon Karding that affected a huge part of Central Luzon during the last week of September.

Over 2,800 families affected by the recent typhoon have received assistance through relief efforts that included five (5) kilos of rice as well as several canned goods, enough to sustain a family of four (4) to five (5) people for at least three (3) days. The goods were distributed through the collaboration between the Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation) and its implementing partner, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation.

“The typhoon brought great devastation, but this will never bring the bayanihan spirit of the Filipino people down,” says Benedict Sison, CEO and Country Head of Sun Life Philippines and Chairperson of the Sun Life Foundation. “We are grateful for the support of our global office. Sun Life remains steadfast in its commitment and resolve to be the Filipinos’ partner in helping our country rise to a brighter tomorrow.”

The relief efforts aim to alleviate the current predicament of the residents of Bgy. Matawe (802 families), Bgy. Ibona (73 families), and Bgy. Paltic (1,000 families) in the Municipality of Dingalan in Aurora Province; as well as those in Bgy. Tagumpay (500 families) in the Municipality of San Leonardo and Barangay San Vicente (500 families) in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija.

“The relief efforts for our disaster-stricken countrymen is our humble way of showing the Filipino people that we remain committed to our promise to be the country’s partner for life, especially in building our nation,” says Sison. “We hope that through these endeavors, we continue to shine a beacon of hope that a better and a brighter future will always be in the horizon, no matter the adversities,” he concluded.
