Commission on Elections Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia joins the other stakeholders for the Contract Signing and Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Construction of the foundation of the New COMELEC Main Building in Pasay City.

The Comelec is currently renting various buildings, including several floors at the Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila and according to Commission on Elections Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia, the new building will lessen the expenses as it will be their own.

According to Chairman Garcia, “This symbolizes the Commission on Elections’ desire to be an independent constitutional body, to prove that the honor, dignity, and independence of the Commission are intact. The building is just a symbol, but in our hearts, minds, and feelings, it represents genuine service to the people.”

Comelec does not have their own building unlike other agencies and departments. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to finish the construction of its new office building in Pasay City by 2028.

At the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its foundation, Comelec chair mentioned that the cost is P8.2 billion project and to be completed in three to four years.
