The jubilee year of the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions (GIEI 2025) will be presenting 1,050 new inventions and products including salt technologies from the Philippines and 34 other countries in an expanded programme of events and workshops on April 9-13, 2025 in Palexpo Geneve in Le Grand-Saconnex, Switzerland.
The European Space Agency as guest of honor will take some 30,000 expected participants on a journey into space with the exhibition breaking out into immersive workshops and activities for young and old alike, conferences and workshops on new technological and industrial trends, and forum for innovation and invention professionals.
The Philippines, with DOST-ITDI as one of its representatives, will be joining more than 800 exhibitors from 640 companies and universities, 160 private inventors and researchers, and 650 media practitioners.
ITDI Director and Project Team Leader Dr. Annabelle V. Briones will be presenting the Continuous Screw-type Salt Washer to guest manufacturers, commercial traders, and financiers who are looking for innovations that are ready to be marketed. The machine can remove 97% of impurities and contaminants in seawater thus aligning with the standards of the Act for Salt Iodization Nationwide or ASIN Law and addressing food safety concerns. Further, the use of saturated brine as washing medium enables the machine to filter and recycle it back for reuse. The salt washer is the First Prize Winner of the 2024 Tuklas Award for Outstanding Invention in the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) Presidential Awards.
Meanwhile, Oliver C. Evangelista of the Chemicals and Energy Division (CED-ITDI) will be showcasing for the first time the 3-in-1 Salt Crusher, Washer, and Harvester. Originally designed as a salt harvester, Evangelista has redrawn it to serve other infield salt production requirements as well as boost local salt productivity and improve quality. With the use of the multi-functional machine, salt farmers are saved from the tedious job of manually harvesting salt, and crushing, piling, and hauling these.
Dr. Briones explained that “DOST-ITDI is joining the Geneva exhibition to turn our government’s investments into profit through the negotiation of licenses. More than this, however, we want to benefit from the substantial publicity of the exhibition. Would you believe that they have sent out more than 50,000 personal invitations and 4.6 million E-mails to business visitors all over the world? Add to these the presence of more than 600 international journalists.”
She added that this unique opportunity to present “… our Filipino inventions, the results of our research, and our new products to industrial and commercial companies, universities, other foreign inventors, and researchers provides us Filipino representatives immense pride and joy.”
Finally, GIEI 2025 will serve as a springboard for knowledge exchange with both the business community and experts from all over the world. The Geneva exhibition is organized under the auspices of the Swiss Federal Government, the State, the City of Geneva, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the International Federation of Inventors Associations (IFIA).
